WordPress has come a long way since its inception but the addition of many features into its core has resulted in speed decreases. In other words, WordPress has become a little “bulky”. Fortunately there is a way to speed up WordPress using the power of “Turbo” and “Google Gears”. Watch your loading times increase!

Kickin’ it Old-School at WordCamp Dallas

It was a roaringly good gathering/reunion this week at WordCamp Dallas with many WordCast and Bitwire Media friends and family meeting up to kick it old-school and talk WordPress and blogging.

If you’re a blogging fiend and love WordPress (the latter is not necessary but recommended), I encourage you to check out a WordCamp… any WordCamp.

Pearls of wisdom from recognized industry professionals, the ability to pick their brains, free food, goodies and the opportunity to network and make new friends… it’s a no-brainer!

dave on geekbrief Cali Lewis (GeekBrief.TV) Interviews Dave Moyer

Dave Moyer, the lead host of WordPress and blogging-centric show, WordCast, gave a presentation on podcasting with WordPress this week at WordCamp San Francisco.

Stories have been filtering in these past few days about WordCamp San Francisco and from what I have heard so far, it looks like it was the WordCamp to be at this year. Speaker wars, valuable networking, anything and everything WordPress and blogging related… (Makes me wish I could have been there!)

In attendance (and speaking) was Cali Lewis, host of GeekBrief.TV. Looks like Mr. Dave Moyer got a little bit of love from Cali Lewis. Check out the interview here.

Lyrics

Wuh wuh wuh WordPress, yo, it’s gonna impress
Your blogging sensibilities and philosophies
So just throw them all out, put your hands in the air
Now wave them all about like you just don’t care

Buh buh buh before you install it, there’s things you gotta know
There’s famous people all around us, so now I gotta sound off
Their names and their games, they got a lot of knowledge
So listen real good cause what I say is solid

There’s LorelleVan Fossen, she’s really kind of awesome
But she’s got a pet peeve and it makes her eyes bleed
When you put up photos of your dog and cat up on your blog
WTF blog clutter, dawg!

There’s Elizabeth Strauss, she’s totally bodacious
Her butt is bootylicious, it’s looking super vicious
If you got something to say go to her open mic night
And if you want an SOB award you gotta do it right

J J Jeff Chandler, yo, he’s got a little secret
He’s secretly in love with me and thinks I’m really manly
He won’t admit it, but, I’ll say he’s kind of cool
He really knows his WordPress stuff so listen up, foo’!

Now look who’s walking by, Vladimir Prelovac
He makes the best plugins, to him we tip our hats
Now if that isn’t cool enough, check this out
He’s the author of a WordPress book, he’s really got our backs

Then there’s Jonathan Bailey, he likes to twitter daily
140 characters is all he needs you ladies
He knows the ins and outs of blogging copyright
“Don’t plagerize,” that’s what he’ll say and we all know he’s right

There’s Matt Mullenweg at MA.TT
He made the WordPress system, he’s superfly you see
He’s always at the WordCamps, his face is really dreamy
Go on and check out all his talks the girls say he is steamy

Then there’s Tara Anderson, she markets for Lijit
She’s really cute and smart to boot, she really knows her –beep!-
If you need a search that will index all your stuff
Call 911-Lijit-to-Go ’cause that will be enough

Say hello to Jane Wells, you’ll see her everywhere
Community shammunity she lays it out to bare
She’s the beacon of light that we can turn to
Volunteers and graphics, that’s what she’ll have us do

And then there’s David Moyer, his name rhymes with lawyer
Something which he should consider cause he likes to talk
Duh duh duh David Moyer, he’s the lead host of WordCast
If you need your weekly Wordpress fix then head there really fast

I’d like to shout out to the read, you know who you are
Keep doing what you’re doing and we will all go far
All the other types of blogs, sleep with one eye open
’Cause WordPress is the bees’ knees, and all the rest is –beep!-

Diggin’ through my trash, what do I find?
A little bit of love, it’s suddenly stash!
I gotta admit, I was kinda surprised
But here’s a lot of loving. Boo yeah! High five!

On my way to WordCamp… it’s cool
Makes me feel a little funny, makes me want to skip skool
Can’t wait to see the peeps, and pick up the freebies
Just thinkin’ bout it now, gives me the heebie jeebies!

Look who it is, it’s Matt Mullenweg
Gotta recognise yo, call him Matt… not Fred
If you give him too much grief, I will hunt you down
Show the man a little love, don’t you give him any frown

Now this is where this rap ends, I know it’s kinda sad
But don’t be down baby, don’t even feel bad
Cause Ima got your back, and you gotta recognize
WordCamp will be back, cause WordPress really flies!

WordCast Live From WordCamp Denver 2009

Howdy everybody! True to WordCast and online broadcasting form, the WordCast team, including yours truly, will be coming at you live from WordCamp Denver 2009. Truly… what else did you expect? After all, we really are the world’s most hyperactive people out on a mission to conquer the airwaves with our nonsensical banter and questions such as, “So who would you turn gay for?” (The correct answer is “me”.)

With the all star lineup of podcasting wizard, Dave Moyer, local community superstar, Lorelle VanFossen, yours truly and a plethora of WordPress community members — including hopefully WordPress guru, Jeff Chandler, who also happens to be a little girl with a very manly voice — we’re going to bring you one of the bestest WordCamps. Ever. (Unless people start throwing around silly questions such as, “Hi Matt Mullenweg! I’ve recently switched over to www.blogger.com and I have to be honest, I really like Blogger… more than WordPress. What are you views on this?”)

Dave and Lorelle will be live during the entire day on video. I will be beamed into WordCamp Denver for interviews and what-have-you with all those in attendance.

“When will you guys be broadcasting live?“
We’re going to be streaming live from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM PST at Bitwire Live on Saturday, February 28, 2009.

“Wow that’s super but how do I join in?“
Head on over to Bitwire Live and watch the live stream. We’ve also set up a chat room there for all viewers to chat with each other. We’ll be dropping in from time to time to say hello to everyone.

We’ll see you there!

Lorelle VanFossen — Fairy Blogmother Extraordinaire

Darren Rowse from ProBlogger.net and Lorelle VanFossen showing some love.

More recently my good friend, Lorelle VanFossen, announced herself as the fairy blogmother and gave a groovy presentation at WordCamp Portland. Her garb? A hilarious fairy ensemble complete with pajama bottoms and her weapon of choice? A touching story of how WordPress changed the life of Glenda Watson Hyatt.

Lorelle promised me that she had someting up her sleeve. While the costume and the persona was unexpected (a fairy blogmother; what an original idea!), the coolest thing were the stories that made up her presentation (not to mention she somehow got me into the presentation too). Visit Lorelle and Glenda today and don’t forget to check it out! (Or else.)
